Nikos Giannopoulos, Rhode Island Teacher of the Year

A Greek-American, named Nikos Giannopoulos, won Rhode Island’s teacher of the year award. As such, he was invited to the White House back in April with his fellow award winners from other states. Here, he not only got to meet the President, Donald Trump, but was able to take a photo with him as well. Giannopoulos posted the photo to his Facebook on June 15.

The photograph shows Giannopoulos holding a fan and wearing other different, yet meaningful, accessories. Giannopoulos says he picked strategic accessories in order to pay tribute to the LGBTQ community during the photo op with the president.

In his own words…

“For my trip to the White House, I wore a rainbow pin to represent my gratitude for the LGBTQ community that has taught me to be proud, bold, and empowered by my identity – even when circumstances make that difficult.” – Nikos Giannopoulos

Here’s a screenshot of his Facebook post as of Friday, June 16 at approximately 11:30 PM PST.
